The Gill Blade360 Rotary Sensor is a solid-state inductive rotary position sensor, capable of measuring 360° rotation (0-359.9° with no dead band).
The sensor uses induction technology to sense the position of a metallic 'activator', mounted to (or formed as part of) the moving object.
The Blade360 Rotary Sensor has no moving parts and, with no contact between the sensor and the moving part of the application, the sensor will not suffer from mechanical wear through use. Sealed to IP67, the Blade360 Rotary Sensor is ideal for applications subject to harsh environments.
Multiple outputs are available as standard, including Analogue (0-5.5V), Switch, PWM and Serial. The output can be fully configured using the supplied BladeCOM software, allowing the full-scale output to be used over a smaller measurement range.
- No moving sensor parts - especially suitable for use in dusty and harsh environments
- Long-term reliability unmatched by contacting technologies (potentiometers, RVDTs etc)
- 360° single turn measurement range
- IP67 Sealed - suitable for submerged installations
- Analogue & digital outputs - will interface with most systems
- Induction technology - thermally stable and unaffected by magnetic fields
For applications where the Blade360 Rotary Sensor is not mechanically suitable we can produce bespoke rotary sensors that combine the existing measurement technology and electronics with a custom housing that matches the application's mechanical and environmental requirements.
Whether your requirement is for a low number of prototype units or OEM volume supply, our in-house cutting-edge Research and Development facilities allow us to develop innovative custom rotary sensors rapidly.

The Blade360 rotary sensor is suitable for monitoring 360° (0-359.9° with no dead band) of rotational movement in applications subject to extreme environments. Some application ideas for the standard Blade360 rotary sensor are shown below.
-
Steering Position Feedback (single turn)
In this application the sensor monitors the full 360° rotation of the steering column. The activator is machined into the metallic part of the column with a 2mm gap between the activator and sensor maintained at all times.

Control Levers and Joysticks
In this application each control lever is monitored by a side-exit-cable Blade360 rotary sensor with the activator machined into the side of the lever. The total rotational movement is ±20°, with each sensor programmed to give the full-scale 0-5.5V output over this range.
