The Rod Position Sensor was originally custom-developed to monitor the height and movement of a series of moveable aero struts on a Formula 1 car.
A cylindrical tinned steel target, referred to as the 'activator', is mounted to each aero strut, directly in-line with the sensor's blind sensing cavity. As the aero parts move, the activator enters the sensing cavity allowing the sensor to produce an output relative to absolute position.
The rod position sensor is ideal for other applications in which a very small amount of linear movement needs to be monitored. The sensor has a low height profile and no internal moving parts, with no physical contact between the sensor and the moving target 'activator'. The total measurement range of this sensor is 8mm, which is fully configurable via the supplied configuration software.
This sensor is available for purchase in its current form in low quantities, however volume manufacture is possible for OEM applications. Please contact us for more informtion.
The 'activator', shown in red, is mounted to the tip of the rod and moves within the blind sensing cavity as the rod changes position.
